Chicago, Ill. - A loss usually doesn't sit well with a team.
The UIC Swimming and Diving teams rebounded from Friday night's loss to Bowling Green with a pair of victories over MCC rival Butler on Saturday. The men's team earned a 142-80 win while the women's team dropped the Bulldogs 134-102.
UIC won a combined 19 out of the 26 events on Saturday on their way to the victories. On the women's side, freshman Jamie Redway and junior diver Andrea Bove were the pace-setters for the Flames. Redway captured victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:52.53) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:19.67) while Bove won the 1-meter (235.00) and 3-meter (278.75) diving events.
The women's team also received victories from junior Julie-Anne Chico (200-yard freestyle, 1:59.04), Stephanie Murphy (50-yard freestyle, 25.41), the 400-yard medley relay (4:10.08) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:41.55).
Freshman Enric Claret paved the way for the men's team with victories in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:13), 200-yard butterfly (2:00.52) and 500-yard freestyle (4:53). Junior David Kimmerly also turned in a solid performance with victories in the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.53) and the 200-yard backstroke (1:57.82).
The men's team also received victories from Paul Torres (200-yard individual medley, 1:57.98), Mike Magee (1-meter diving, 299.35), Charlie Rock (3-meter diving, 313.30), Diego Lora Coronado (200-yard breaststroke, 2:06.77) and their 400-yard medley relay (3:41.14) and 400-yard freestyle relay (3:17.10)
The UIC men's team dropped Friday's contest to Bowling Green 141-96 while the women fell 142-101. The men received victories from Magee (1-meter diving, 296.75), Tom Schwingen (100-yard freestyle, 47.37), Rock (3-meter diving, 280.05), Lora Coronado (100-yard breaststroke, 58.74) and the 200-yard medley relay (1:28.62).
Bove swept the diving competitions on the women's side with victories in the 1-meter (240.45) and 3-meter (253.65) events. Adrienne Turri was the other winner for the women's team with a win in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.29).
