Indianapolis, Ind. - The Midwestern Collegiate Conference announced its winter Academic All-Conference teams today as eight University of Illinois at Chicago athletes have been feted.
The MCC bestowed the honor upon six athletes from the indoor track and field men and women's team including Neto Alexander (Port-of-Spain, Trinidad/Queen's Royal College), Rich Daubert (Arlington Heights, Ill./Hersey), Joe Marren (Chicago, Ill./Mount Carmel), Chris Stanley (Chicago, Ill./Lyons Township), Jon White (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) and Kelly Colangelo (Orland Park, Ill./Reavis).
Other winners for the Flames include swimmers David Kimmerly (Lockport, Ill./Lockport) and Julie-Anne Chico (Oak Lawn, Ill./Holy Infant Jesus).
Alexander, a Business Information and Decision Services major, set a school-record in the 60-meter dash as he raced to a 4th-place finish of 6.92. Alexander later went on to capture the 60 and 200-meter dash crowns at the MCC Indoor Track and Field championships, which earned him Co-Performer of the Meet honors.
Daubert, an Electrical Engineering major, placed second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:58.89 at the MCC Indoor Track and Field Championships.
Marren, an Athletic Training major, turned in a season-best performance of 4:20.42 in the one-mile run at the Cannon IV Classic held at Butler University on February 10th.
Stanley, an Applied Psychology major, also raced to a season-best time at the Cannon IV Classic in the 800-Meter run (1:57.19).
White, an Accounting major, leapt his way to a career-best mark of 44"11?' in the triple jump at the Illinois State Redbird Open.
Colangelo, a Community Physical Education Major, took home the Flames' lone top-three individual finish as she placed third in the weight-throw with a heave of 35'7 ?" feet at the UW-Milwaukee Pre-Conference Tune Up meet.
Kimmerly, a psychology major, earned a 10th-place finish at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference swimming championships in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 53.06
Chico, a business administration major, recorded two top-ten finishes at the Midwestern Collegiate Conference swimming championships in the 100-yard freestyle (4th, 54.00) and 200-yard freestyle (10th, 1:57.29) events.
