CHICAGO – UIC continues its indoor campaign on Friday, Dec. 12, heading across the city for the Blue Demon Holiday Invite hosted by DePaul University at the Dr. Conrad Worrill Track Center. Field events are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. CT, followed by track events at 5 p.m. CT. Live results will be provided once available.
The Flames enter the meet following a strong season-opening weekend at the GVSU Holiday Open and the Cougar Alumni Open, where the team combined for four new school records, 13 top-10 all-time marks and 24 personal bests.
On the men's side, Daniel Chavez highlighted the weekend by breaking the school record in the 5000 meters with a time of 14:09.79, on his way to being named the MVC Men's Track Athlete of the Week. Theodore Cunningham opened his season with a sixth-place finish in the 3000 at GVSU (8:20.90), while Amare Harris set a school record in the 300 meters at the Cougar Alumni Open, placing third in 34.75. Olukolajo Sodipe (long jump, 6.89m) and Emanuel Murphy (300m, 35.45) also added all-time program marks.
For the women, Korima Gonzalez ran 4:59.65 in the mile at GVSU to move to No. 5 in school history, while Isabela Garcia posted a top-10 program time in the 3000 (10:11.89). At the Cougar Alumni Open, freshman Carissa Uy set a new UIC freshman record in the long jump (5.55m) and placed third overall, and Jorie Irving added a school record in the 300 meters (41.25). Mia Maglaya recorded an 11.00m triple jump to rank No. 6 all-time.
