Santa Barbara, Calif. - The UIC soccer team couldn't get anything going offensively Sunday afternoon against UC Santa Barbara as it suffered a 2-0 loss. The Flames managed just three shots in the match while Gauchos' goalkeeper Dan Kennedy had to make just one save - and that came in the second half.
UIC, which played without its top two returning scorers, Jake Stasko and Dennis King, against Cal Poly on Friday, welcomed Stasko to action this afternoon. The junior forward, however, was unable to help get the Flames on the winning track as they dropped their second straight game to finish 0-2 at UCSB's Kappa Klassic.
Goalkeeper Jeff Kusiciel pitched a shutout through the first 70 minutes of the game before Santa Barbara finally broke the scoreless tie. Rob Friend headed in a crossing pass to give the Gauchos a 1-0 lead. Nine minutes later, UCSB upped its lead to 2-0 on a similar play as Matt Bly buried his first goal of the year, a header off of a cross. Kusiciel finished the outing with four saves.
The Flames will head south next weekend for Memphis, Tenn., where they will participate in the Diadora Memphis Classic along with Alabama A&M and the hosts from Memphis.
