Green Bay, Wisconsin - The blood was in the water, but the sharks just didn't smell it.

The University of Illinois at Chicago women's basketball team held defending regular-season champion, UW-Green Bay scoreless for over seven minutes in the first half. The Flames, however, could not capitalize as the Phoenix went on for the 65-52 Horizon League victory at the Phoenix Sports Center on Thursday night.

"We couldn't capitalize when we needed to on our end," UIC head coach Tim Eatman said. "That's the part of our struggle.

"We have to put the ball in the basket ourselves" Eatman continued. "We have to be aggressive and we're not being aggressive."

With the victory, UW-Green Bay improves to 7-5 overall and 1-0 in the Horizon League, while UIC falls to 9-5 and 1-1.

UW-Green Bay jumped out to an early 13-4 lead behind three three-pointers from Sara Boyer (16 points). The Phoenix then went on their dry spell, but the Flames could come no closer than 13-12.

UIC was also done in by UW-Green Bay's torrid shooting from beyond the three-point arc. Boyer led the way for the Phoenix with four treys followed by Kristy Loiselle (2), Amanda Leonhard (1), Elizabeth Dudley (1) and Emily Johnson (1). Seven of those three-point shots came in the first half.

"I thought that we didn't contest those three-point shots," Eatman said. "It's easy to shoot the three when nobody has a hand in your face."

Mandy Stowe, the defending conference player of the year, led all scorers with 20 points for UW-Green Bay. UIC forward Jaysie Chambers scored a team-high 15 points, while junior guard LeKesha Williams also turned in a solid effort with 10 points.

UIC will be back in action on Saturday as they will again travel to Wisconsin to take on defending conference tournament champions, UW-Milwaukee. Tip-off is slated for 6:30 PM at the Klotsche Center.
