Softball Can't Overcome Hot-Hitting Missouri

Feb. 16, 2002

Box Score

Columbia, Mo. - The UIC softball team put eight runs on Missouri on Saturday evening, but it was not enough to hold off the host Tigers as they pounded out an 11-8 victory over the Flames at the Mizzou Round Robin.

UIC held an early lead after plating a pair of runs in the top of the first, but Missouri came roaring out of the gates, tallying five runs in 2/3 of an inning off starter Alycia Creese (3-1), before notching four more off reliever Amanda Ritchie in the second.

The Flames (4-3) did their best to come back behind the efforts of Edel Leyden (2-for-4, HR, 3 RBI) and Amber Stachura (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBI), who launched her third home run of the day versus the Tigers. It was not enough, though, as Missouri pounded out 14 hits in the game.

Creese suffered her first loss of the season while Tiger hurler Ingred Werner picked up her first win, despite giving up seven runs in five innings of work.

UIC, which has scored 21 runs at the tournament, will look to get back on track tomorrow as they meet Western Illinois in the final round robin match of the tournament.
