Chicago, Ill. - The University of Illinois at Chicago women's tennis team was defeated by Cincinnati 5-1 on Sunday afternoon. There were no doubles matches played.
Nicole Derouin picked up the lone UIC victory on the afternoon, beating Jen Capuzzi in the No. 1 singles slot 6-1, 6-4.
"This was a match like our match with Marquette," head coach Shannon Tully said. "If a few breaks go our way then maybe it's a different story, but they are a very good team."
UIC's Britta Dohmann took Cincy's Khushchehr Italia to three sets, but was bested in a tight battle 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-4 at No. 3 singles.
In the No. 6 slot, the Flames' Alyson Stalzer also battled hard for three sets, but was eventually topped 6-4, 4-6, 5-7.
The women's tennis team will be in action again on Friday when they travel to Bowling Green. Match-time is set for 6:00 PM.
