Tampa, Fla. - The UIC softball may have had its season-best six game winning streak snapped on Thursday afternoon, but they left the field with their heads high after 1-1 start to the 2002 Speedline Invitational.
The Flames opened the day with a 7-3 triumph over Hofstra for their sixth consecutive win before dropping a tough 2-1 decision to #3 Stanford in the nightcap.
Versus the Cardinal, sophomore Alison Aguilar (6-3) pitched two-hit gem, but it was not enough to oust one of the nation's finest teams.
Sophomore Amanda Rivera drove in UIC's only run with a single to center, but the Flames left the tying run on third in the same inning.
In the opener, Rivera paced the Flames past the Pride with a two-run homer in the 7-3 victory.
Sophomore Alycia Creese picked up her team-best seventh win in the circle, going the distance for UIC.
The Flames will continue pool play in the tournament on Friday afternoon as they battle Georgia Southern at 3:00 p.m. CST, before taking on Penn State at 5:00 p.m. CST.
