Louisville, Ky.- The UIC men's tennis team resumed play at the Louisville Invitational on Saturday, chalking up 11 singles victories during the second day of competition at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on the University of Louisville campus.

The Flames rebounded from a slow start on Friday with outstanding performances from sophomore Yevgen Ryeznik and newcomers Karol Zarucki and Sean Kreymborg, who turned in three singles wins apiece in consolation matches.

Zarucki defeated Austin Peay's Joao Pinho in the first round of the Flight "A" consolation bracket, 8-7 (7-4). After bouncing Dayton's Rob Altenau in the second round with an 8-3 win, Zarucki downed Toledo's Tony Tran, 8-1, to move onto the bracket finals.

Awaiting Zarucki in the finals is Ryeznik, who took 8-6 victories from Tennessee-Martin's Lucas Tregansine and Toledo's Todd Wojtkowski in the first two rounds before defeating Tom Murphy of Dayton in the semifinals, 8-4.

Ryeznik will meet Zarucki in the Flight "A" consolation finals on Sunday.

After dropping a close battle in his first collegiate singles match, Kreymborg rebounded with three consecutive wins on Saturday. Kreymborg beat Bradley's Afshin Khaiser, Wright State's Brian Savino, and Austin Peay's Nabil Lababedi to move on to the Flight "C" consolation bracket finals against Lukasz Soswa of Southern Illinois.

Junior Ken Howrey scored two strong victories in the Flight "B" consolation bracket against IUPUI's Juan Mas, 8-5, and Dayton's Jon Khoury, 8-2. Howrey's streak was stopped in the semifinals by Austin Peay's Wes Pancho in an 8-2 loss.

Sophomore Pat Zufan was unable to keep his undefeated run at the tournament alive, losing a tough match against Bradley freshman and Louisville native Alex Roby, 7-6 (7-5), 6-4, in the Flight "C" Bracket. Zufan also dropped a hard-fought doubles match with Steven Phrasisomboune to the Dayton duo of Kevin O'Connell and Rex Cabrera, 9-8 (11-9).

Kreymborg was also in doubles action, losing to the Salukis' team of Alex Nomicos and Julian Angel Botero, 8-5, with partner Ryne Fulton of the University of Indianapolis.

The Flames will finish out play at the Louisville Invitational on Sunday.
