Las Cruces, N.M. - The UIC softball team's start at the Troy Cox Classic got off to a sour start as fell to Miami (OH), 8-0, in six innings on Friday morning at Maag Park.
The Redhawks (3-0) used a seven-run fourth inning to propel them to victory.
Miami starter Courtney Salmon then took care of the rest, allowing just one hit to pick up her second win of the season.
UIC's Alison Aguilar was tagged with the loss, surrendering eight runs on seven hits in 4 1/3 innings of work. Megan Boyle made her collegiate pitching debut in relief, tossing 2/3 of an inning while picking up her first career strikeout.
Junior Amanda Rivera accounted for the Flames (1-9) only hit of the day with a single to left field in the sixth inning.
UIC will be back in action this afternoon as they battle IPFW at 4:30 p.m.
