Chicago, Ill. -Junior pitcher Alison Aguilar tossed a complete-game shutout and UIC completed a three-game sweep of visiting Detroit on Sunday with a 2-0 victory at Flames Field.
With the win, the Flames tied their season-best winning streak at three and moved to 14-28 on the year, 6-2 in the Horizon League. The Titans, meanwhile, drop to 15-12-1, 1-3-1 in league action.
Aguilar (7-12), who won her 16th straight Horizon League decision, was masterful on Sunday, allowing just three hits and one batter to reach second base. She struck out four and walked just one.
Detroit starter was Adrienne Baran (1-5) was just as strong in the circle, surrendering just three hits, but a pair of first-inning errors led to a pair of unearned runs for UIC. Baran retired 16 of the last 17 batters she faced.
The Flames put both of their runs on the board in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on a pair of early Titan miscues.
Junior Alycia Creese eventually drove in both runs with two outs as she drove a double into right center field, plating Michelle Miller and Sara Hernandez.
The Titans biggest threat came in the top of the first inning when thet put runners on first and second with just one out. Aguilar got out of the jam, though, retiring the next two batters.
The Flames will be back in action on Tuesday evening when they welcome Northwestern to Flames Field for a single game at 5:30 p.m.
