Chicago, Ill. - Junior first baseman Alycia Creese went 2-for-3 with five RBI to help lead host UIC to the 8-3 Horizon League victory over Cleveland State in the opening game of their doubleheader Flames Field on Friday afternoon.
Cleveland State salvaged the doubleheader split, as rightfielder Lindsay Ball went 2-for-2 with three RBI to push the Vikings to the 6-3 victory in the nightcap.
With the split, UIC moves to 15-30 overall and 7-3 in Horizon League action, while the Vikings are 14-19 on the campaign and 4-5 in league play.
Aguilar (8-13), who won her 17th straight Horizon League decision, scattered five hits and struck out eight batters for the complete-game victory in the opener. Cleveland State hurler Lindsay Gervais was tagged for the loss, as she only went 1/3 of an inning, allowing four runs and four hits.
In the opener, sophomore third baseman Sara Hernandez went 1-for-3 with her third homer of the season - a two-run shot in the bottom of the first inning - along with two runs scored.
Stephanie Taylor and Kaitlin Guyette each had a hit and a RBI for Cleveland State in the opener.
In the nightcap, Cleveland State starter J.J. Thornberry picked up the complete-game victory, allowing three runs and five hits while striking out three batters. UIC hurler Brittany McIntyre (6-13) took the loss for the Flames, giving up three runs and four hits, while striking out four.
Kortney Spidell also turned in a solid effort offensively for Cleveland State in the nightcap, adding two RBI for the Vikings.
Junior designated player Amanda Rivera (2-for-2) roped her team-high fifth homer of the season - a two-run shot in the top of the sixth to lead the Flames offensively in the second game.
UIC and Cleveland State will do battle again on Saturday with the series finale beginning at 11:00 a.m.
