Box Score
Dayton, Ohio - Despite a pair of stellar pitching performances, UIC had to settle for a split of its doubleheader at Wright State on Saturday afternoon.
The Flames (17-33, 9-5) dropped the opener to the Raiders (10-31, 5-11), 1-0, then battled back to take the nightcap, 2-0.
In game one, Amy Price's RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning was all the offense Wright State would need as Raider starter Kristin Bultinck smothered the UIC offense.
Bultinck pitched her way out of a bases loaded, one-out jam in the first. She then escaped the second inning after putting runners on first and second with just one out. All in all, Bultinck stranded six Flames on base.
Junior Alison Aguilar (9-16) was the tough-luck loser for the third straight game, scattering five hits and allowing just one run on the day. She also fanned six batters while walking just one. Aguilar has now lost her last three decisions, despite allowing just four total earned runs in those contests.
The Flames rebounded in the nightcap, thanks to the bat of Alycia Creese and the pitching of rookie Brittany McIntyre.
Creese went 2-for-3 in the second game with a solo home run and two runs scored.
She scored UIC's first run of the day on a sacrifice fly by Kristin Cumbo in the second inning, then made the score 2-0 with a solo homer down the left field line in the bottom of the sixth. It was her third home run of the season.
McIntyre (7-13) took care of the rest for the Flames, tossing the complete-game shutout. She surrendered just three hits and fanned three while walking just one to collect her seventh win of the season.
UIC, which played without starters Cameron Astiazaran and Meghan Gallagher, totaled just nine hits in the twinbill.
The Flames will look to win the series tomorrow afternoon when they take on Wright State at 12:00 p.m. (CDT).
