Elmhurst, Ill. - University of Illinois at Chicago junior throwing specialist Nick Gazis continues to impress as the Skokie, Ill., native collected a first-place finish in the hammer throw and a runner-up mark in the discus to lead the Flames at the Elmhurst Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Gazis took home the win in the hammer throw with a season-best toss of 161'3" and followed that with a mark of 151'2" in the discus. Freshman Don Sica followed close behind Gazis in the hammer throw with a third-place finish of 132'0".
Freshman Sam Watson rounded out the Flames' top three finishers with a solid, second-place finish of 15:24 in the 5,000-meter run.
UIC will be back in action on Saturday afternoon, as they will travel to Renssaeler, Ind., to participate in the St. Joseph's Invitational.
