Artsem Burmistrau Named Horizon League Newcomer of the Year

Indianapolis, Ind.- University of Illinois at Chicago freshman Artsem Burmistrau took the Horizon League by storm during his rookie campaign, and it didn't go unnoticed as the Belarus native was named the league's Newcomer of the Year on Friday night.

Burmistrau, who turned in a 13-5 record at No. 1 singles and a 3-2 record in league play, was also named to the All-Horizon League First Team.

Paul Glendenning's strong first season was recognized as the sophomore earned All-Horizon League Second Team honors. The Rockford, Ill. native went 10-9 in the spring and posted a 4-1 singles record in league action.

Butler took home most of the honors on the men's side as Kevin Gill was named Player of the Year for the second straight season, joining brother and teammate Brandon Gill on the All-League First Team. Burmistrau, Cleveland State's Eric Winn, UW-Green Bay's Ben Davis and Youngstown State's R.J. Pepino rounded out the first team.

Glendenning was joined on the all-league second team by James Low of Butler, Cleveland State's Jay Tee, Tyler Dorn of UW-Green Bay, and Scott Hayden and Kevin Teufel of Wright State.

The Flames are in action today at the Horizon League Tennis Championships.
