Chicago, Ill.- After the young University of Illinois at Chicago soccer team ended their rigorous five-game road trip this past Sunday, the Flames are ready to begin life at Flames Field for their 2004 home opener against city rival DePaul this Wednesday, Sept. 15th, at 3:00 p.m.
Despite going 0-3 this past week, the Flames received key performances from their young corps that showed signs of excellent things to come. Sam Reindl's aggressive play and narrow shot-on-goal miss in the final 30 seconds of the Jacksonville game earned the sophomore All-Tournament honors at the Adidas-HomeStay Inn Soccer Classic, while Derek Kosek created havoc for the opposition all weekend long on the sloppy field at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
Horizon League saves leader Jeff Engelbrecht continued to shine in tough conditions, posting 13 saves in defeat on Saturday, while Roman Tulis kept UIC in the contest against a potent Jacksonville lineup on Sunday with seven stops.
DePaul (1-3-1) heads into Flames Field following a 2-1 overtime loss to Northwestern, while Detroit (1-2-0), the Flames' opponent on Sunday, are fresh off a narrow 2-1 loss to ninth-ranked Michigan.
