Women's Swimming & Diving Falls To Illinois State

Normal, Ill.- Despite two victories apiece from Jessica Darud and Colleen Dougherty, the University of Illinois at Chicago women's swimming and diving team dropped a 187-112 decision to host Illinois State on Friday night.

Darud was outstanding in the 200 backstroke, winning in 2:10.55 for a near-two second victory. She also shared the 100 back title with teammate Andrea Giczewski, as both swam to a time of 1:01.55 in the event.

Dougherty continued to dominate the 100 freestyle. For the sixth time in seven attempts this season, Doughety captured the 100 free, this time turning in a 54.51. The rookie phenom also took the 50-yard freestyle in a career-best 24.81.

The 400-yard freestyle team of Dougherty, Jenny Gessford, Aisha Williams and Kelly Hyatt helped wrap up the evening in style with a winning time of 3:38.24.

UIC is back in action on Saturday against UW-Green Bay at the UIC Natatorium beginning at 12:30 p.m.
