Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Engelbrecht (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame H.S.) earned Horizon League Men's Soccer Player of the Week honors for the period ending Oct. 17th, the league office announced on Monday.
Engelbrecht posted two shutouts this week to help the Flames go 1-0-1. Engelbrecht now has five clean sheets on the season.
The second-year keeper kept defending Horizon League champion UW-Milwaukee at bay for 110 minutes on Oct. 12th, becoming the first netminder this season to shutout the Panthers during UIC's 0-0 double-overtime tie at Engelmann Field in Milwaukee, Wis.
Engelbrecht followed that performance with another stellar showing on Oct. 16th, shutting down Butler's offense to propel the Flames to a 1-0 win over the Bulldogs at Flames Field.
Engelbrecht registered nine saves in 200 minutes of action this week.
In his last four starts, Engelbrecht has allowed a paltry two goals.
The league honor is the second for Engelbrecht this season. The goalkeeper won the season's first Horizon League Player of the Week award on Sept. 5th following his shutout of then-No. 24 Loyola Marymount to open the campaign.
Engelbrecht and the Flames face crosstown rival DePaul at Wish Field this Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Central.
