Chicago, Ill.- University of Illinois at Chicago freshman Eric Fey (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles North) was named Horizon League Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week for the period ending February 15th, the league announced on Wednesday.
Fey continued the torrid start to his rookie campaign with two singles wins this past weekend. Using two come-from-behind victories at the No. 5 spot against Valparaiso and Northern Illinois, Fey extended his singles winning streak to five matches.
Fey defeated Valpo's Mike Wagner in three sets with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 rally on Friday night, then went on to down NIU's Adam Ford in another three-set thriller, this time rebounding from a 3-6 loss in the first set to win the next two by identical 6-2 counts.
Fey is now 6-2 in dual match play.
The freshman also turned in a doubles win over the weekend.
Fey and the Flames take on IUPUI at the Hinsdale Racquet Club this Saturday at 8 p.m.
