Palos Hills, Ill.- Senior Mikhail Davidyan's second-place finish was one of six UIC top-ten showings that keyed a team win for the Flames at the 4.1-mile men's course at the Ninth Annual UIC Home Opener at Horsetail Lake in Palos Hills, Ill., on Saturday morning.
Davidyan completed the event in 20:41, just six seconds behind winner Josh Nygren (20:35) of UW-Milwaukee.
Just behind Davidyan was sophomore Joseph Mbari (20:42) and junior Sam Watson (21:16), who finished third and fourth, respectively.
Also in the top ten were sophomore Jorge Flores (6th, 21:23), freshman Alex Sutphen (7th, 21:31) and sophomore Tom Schutzius (9th, 21:53).
Also placing well in the 39-man field for the Flames were seniors Graham Waller (19th, 22:43) and Bob Dron (20th, 22:45), as well as sophomore Thomas Chin (30, 24:10).
UIC won the team title and beat every team in head-to-head matchups despite the absence of veteran junior Jim Sulzberger, who was a late scrath due to injury. UW-Milwaukee finished second, followed by St. Xavier, UW-Green Bay and Chicago State.
The Flames return to action on Saturday, September 17th at the Central Collegiate Championships in Toledo, Ohio at 6:00 p.m.
