Chicago, Ill.- The University of Illinois at Chicago men's and women's swimming and diving teams showed no signs of rust after the winter break, easily handling Valparaiso at the UIC Natatorium on Friday.
The UIC men's team downed the Crusaders 133-90, while the women's squad picked up a 124-69 victory over Valpo.
With their last dual meet coming on November 19th, the Flames looked fresh against the Crusaders, picking up victories in all but one event on the evening.
Senior Adan Jimenez picked up two victories, winning the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.91 and taking the 100 backstroke in 53.30. He also led off the victorious 200-yard medley relay (1:35.26).
Newcomer Davor Trnovljakovic won two events in his collegiate debut, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:14.48) and the 500 free (4:57.50).
Sophomore Colleen Dougherty continued to swim well, closing out top performances by UIC's 200 medley relay (1:52.84) and 200 freestyle relay (1:41.49). She also won the women's 200-yard freestyle in 1:58.77.
UIC Head Coach Paul Moniak was glad to see the effort from his team after such a long dual meet layoff.
"It was the first competition in four weeks [since a relay meet against Cincinnati during the winter training trip] and for many the first action in six weeks," said Moniak. "Overall we're very pleased with our performance. It was a good tune-up for the championship phase of our season."
UIC returns to action next Friday, Jan. 14th with a home meet against Ball State and Illinois State at the UIC Natatorium beginning at 5:00 p.m.
