Chicago, Ill. - Shooting 53.3 percent from the beyond the arc, helped the UIC women's basketball team to an 18-point win over Northern Illinois on Wednesday night at the Pavilion, 80-62. The Flames take a six-day break before heading into Horizon League action on Thursday, Dec. 28 at UW-Green Bay.
Three UIC players scored in double figures with senior LaShonda Grant pacing the team on offense with 21 points. Grant shot 60 percent from three-point land (3-for-5) and added six assists on the night.
Senior Jacquay Holmes notched 18 points, six rebounds and five assists versus the Huskies. Senior Krystal Hugelier continued to shine from beyond the arc with four treys. Hugelier totaled 15 points and pulled down five boards.
Freshman Jessie Miller led UIC defensively with a team-best eight rebounds. NIU's Stephanie Raymond paced the Huskies with 15 points and eight boards.
Northern Illinois came out strong in the first half for an 11-2 advantage at the 13:05 mark. The Flames then posted a 19-8 run to take the lead (20-19). The Huskies got within one point with 3:13 left in the first 20 minutes of play, but UIC sparked a late push for a six-point advantage at the half (33-27).
The Huskies inched back in the second half, trailing by two with 12:19 remaining in regulation, but UIC turned on the heat to take control of the game.
The Flames continued to extend their lead in the last six minutes, eventually handing the Huskies an 18-point loss (80-62).
