Las Vegas, Nevada - The UIC softball team finished day two of the Alexis Resort Kick-Off Classic Saturday versus Kentucky and #14 Washington. The Flames will wrap up tournament play this weekend when they battle Southern Utah on Sunday, February 12th at 1 pm (CT). This will mark the first match-up between the Flames and SU.
Game Three - Kentucky vs. UIC
The Wildcats took a 3-0 lead after three innings on four hits game one for the Flames Saturday. In the top of the fourth, UIC freshman Melissa Marinacci hit an RBI single, sending home senior Michelle Miller to trail Kentucky by two runs.
Scoreless in the fifth, Marinacci picked up her second RBI single on the afternoon to get the Flames within one run, but the Wildcats held UIC in the seventh for the 3-2 victory.
Kentucky's Trueblood marks the win, pitching seven innings with four hits and eight strikeouts. UIC pitcher Kelly Cross moves to 0-2 on the season.
Game Four-Washington vs. UIC
Scoreless after four and a half innings, UIC jumped ahead against #14 Washington in game four for the Flames at the Vegas Classic.
On a bunt by sophomore Nikki Rogers in the bottom of the fourth, Liz Jacoby crossed home plate to give the Flames a 1-0 advantage.
The Huskies responded with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth. Scoring three more runs in the top of the seventh, the Huskies held UIC, picking up the 5-1 win.
Washington's Noble grabs the win, pitching seven innings with seven strikeouts. Senior Brittany McIntrye marks her first loss of the season, moving to 0-1.
