Temple Terrace, Fl. Florida International University edged the UIC softball team, 1-0, on a lead-off home run by FIU's Tabatha Embry. The move to 7-17 overall and will challenge Troy in the consolation bracket on Sunday, March 19th at 8:30 am.
Game Four: UIC threatened in the first inning, leaving three on base on two hits. Scoreless after five and a half, FIU's designated hitter Tabatha Embry belted a solo homer down the left field line.
Holding the Flames in the seventh inning, the Golden Panthers advance to the championship bracket versus USF with the 1-0 win.
With a 2-6 record, UIC's Kelly Cross pitched six innings, allowing four hits and racking up seven strikeouts. The Flames play their regular-season opener against South Florida on Tuesday, March 21st.
