Carbondale, Ill. - The UIC softball team picked up its second win in 2006 with a 4-3 win over Northern Illinois in the consolation game at the SIU Tournament on Sunday, March 5th. The Flames posted 11 hits on the afternoon and pitcher Kelly Cross moves to 1-4 on the season with senior Brittany McIntrye earning the save.
Consolation Game Freshman Kelly Clynes doubled to centerfield, followed by an RBI single to the pitcher to give the Flames a 1-0 lead in the top of first inning. With Michelle Miller on third, Melissa Marinacci grounded out to the second baseman for an RBI, giving UIC a 2-0 advantage.
UIC cushioned its lead, scoring two runs in the second and fourth innings, but the Huskies heated up the bats in the bottom of the fifth to tie it up a 4-4 on five hits.
In the top of the sixth, senior Nicole Shepard ripped an RBI double to centerfield to help the Flames to their second win of the season with a 4-3 win over the Huskies in the consolation game at the SIU Tournament.,
The Flames head to Florida from March 9-12th for the Adidas Classic, where they face Dartmouth, Hofstra, Temple, NC State and Buffalo. UIC will kick off the four-day event against Temple on Thursday, March 9th at 10 am. The Flames enter the tournament 2-13 overall.
