Evanston, Ill. - The UIC softball team had its five-game winning streak come to an end at the hands of #15 Northwestern on Tuesday afternoon as the Wildcats earned a 9-0 victory in five innings at Sharon J. Drysdale Field.
Junior Eileen Canney was dominant in the circle for Northwestern (26-10), fanning 10 Flames en route to her ninth shutout of the year. She is now 12-5 this season.
Senior Brittany McIntyre suffered the loss for UIC (15-24), allowing four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work. Her record slipped to 4-9 with the defeat. The loss was McIntyre's first setback since March 17th.
Sheila McCorckle paced Northwestern, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
Senior Joyce Cathey, junior Elizabeth Jacoby and freshman Sarah Clynes each tabbed hits for UIC.
After tacking up a run in the first inning, Northwestern broke the game open in the second with five runs, all of which came with two outs. McCorckle started the rally with a two-run single. The Wildcats plated three more in the third for the final 9-0 margin.
The Flames will be back in action on Friday when they open a three-game series with Youngstown State in Youngstown, Ohio.
