Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's tennis team snatched the doubles point, but the Flames could not hold off Butler on the singles side as the Bulldogs came away with a 5-2 dual match win on Sunday.
UIC captured the doubles point with two different wins. Ivan Kovalev and Andy Lockhart overwhelmed Brandon Gill and Parker Ross with an 8-2 win, while Paul Glendenning and Eric Fey rallied back to earn an 8-6 victory that clinched the one-point UIC lead.
Kovalev went on to earn a huge No. 1 singles win over Gill, winning the first set and the match tiebreaker.
But UIC could not add to their momentum as the Flames were edged in five hard-fought singles matches, including a strong effort by Fey in his No. 6 singles loss to Eric Breitenbach.
Butler improved to 11-9 and 4-0 in league play.
UIC hosts UW-Green Bay at the UIC Outdoor Courts this Friday at 2:00 p.m.
