Chicago, Ill.-The UIC softball team was edged by Butler at home Thursday night, 6-4. UIC continues Horizon League action this weekend at Flames Field on April 29-30 in a three-game series versus Loyola. The Bulldogs pick up their third conference victory, moving to 16-24-1 overall and 3-12 in league play. The Flames drop to 20-29 on the season and 10-5 in conference action.
Two-for-four on the night, catcher Elizabeth Jacoby and shortstop Joyce Cathey powered the Flames on offense.
Butler's Amy Hyerczyk led the Bulldogs, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs scored. Jenny Jacobs went 2-for-4 with one run scored and three RBI, while Annie Dolan picked up her third homer this season in the top of the seventh.
Brittany McIntyre moves to 5-13 on the year, while Jamie Wonderly captures the win for Butler (6-11) and Nikki Naffzinger earns the save.
Butler took the lead in the top of the third on a Jenny Jacobs RBI double to left field. In the fourth, the Flames tied it up at 2-2 on RBI singles from McIntyre and leftfielder Becky Moran.
The Bulldogs grabbed a 4-2 advantage in the fifth on a Jacobs RBI and a sacrifice fly from Jill Meinhold to leftfield. Butler tacked on two more runs in the seventh on a two-run homer from Annie Dolan, marking her third on the season.
Trailing Butler by three, UIC started a rally in the bottom half of the inning. Cathey tripled to right-center, followed by an RBI single from Brittany Dixon to cut BU's lead to two runs. With the bases loaded, Nicole Robinson hit into a double play to cut Dixon off a home.
Popping up to BU's shortstop for the third out, UIC falls to Butler, 6-4.
The Flames are set to host their final seven games at home before squaring off at the 2006 Horizon League Tournament on May 11-13.
