Chicago, Ill.-The UIC softball team fell to DePaul in a 5-2 decision on Wednesday night at Flames Field. DePaul improves to 28-21 overall, while the Flames slip to 21-31 on the season. UIC wraps up regular-season action this weekend when they host Wright State in a three-game series, beginning on Saturday, May 6 at 1 p.m.
Freshman Melissa Marinacci led UIC on offense with one hit and two RBI. DePaul's Sandy Vojik guided the Blue Demons, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kate Sheaks also helped DePaul at the plate with two RBI on one hit.
Stephanie Blagaich picks up the win, moving to 12-5 on the season after fanning five UIC players in seven innings, while UIC's Sarah Clynes falls to 12-6 in the circle.
DePaul jumped ahead in the top of the first on an RBI double from Sheaks, sending two home for a 2-0 advantage.
The Blue Demons extended their lead on a Jackie Tarulli-Fisher sacrifice fly to left field in the third.
UIC cut DePaul's lead to a one-run cushion after Melissa Marinacci ripped one down the left field line, sending Becky Moran and Lauren Brennan across the plate.
Scoreless in the fifth, Kara Amundson belted a lead off home run, followed by a solo homer in the seventh from pitch hitter Cara Santori for a 5-2 lead.
Holding the Flames in the bottom half of the innings, DePaul earns the 5-2 win.
Following this weekend's three-game series versus the Raiders, the Flames travel to Youngstown, Ohio for the 2006 Horizon League Tournament on May 11-13.
