Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's basketball team will look to improve on its 6-1 home record on Saturday afternoon as the Flames play host to Detroit at the UIC Pavilion at 1 p.m. The game will be aired live on Comcast SportsNet Chicago.
UIC (9-10, 4-2) currently sits alone in third place in the Horizon League. The Flames are a game behind league-leading Wright State (5-1). The Titans, meanwhile, are in eighth place with a 2-4 league mark, following a 70-64 home loss to Loyola on Wednesday night.
The contest features the league's top two rebounders in Detroit's Ryvon Covile (11.4 rpg) and UIC's Othyus Jeffers (9.0 rpg). Covile leads the league in defensive rebounds while Jeffers tops the loop charts in offensive caroms.
UIC center Scott VanderMeer, who ranks among the top 10 nationally in blocks and has more blocks than six teams do in the Horizon League, needs just five swats to tie the UIC single-season record of 67. VanderMeer has totaled at least five blocks in each of his last three games.
Detroit leads the all-time series with UIC, 18-8, but the two teams have split the last four meetings with the home team coming away victorious on each occasion.
