Valparaiso, Ind. - With members of the UIC men's tennis team in five of the six championship matches at the Valparaiso Invitational this past Saturday, the Flames capped off September in a fierce fashion.

For the second week in a row, sophomore Sebastian Lystad advanced to the finals in the A Singles bracket, with tough matches against Toledo's Sven Burus (6-3, 0-6, 10-4) and Chris Clark (7-6, 7-4, 6-2). Lystad met up with a third Rocket in the finals, falling to Jared Miller 6-4, 6-1. Junior Adriano Liccardo and sophomore Bastian Harbo also played in the A bracket, with Liccardo losing a tough first round match to Scott Kathary of Youngstown State (6-3, 5-7, 10-4) and Harbo losing to Toledo's Jared Miller in the semifinals (5-7, 6-2, 11-9).

Senior's Eric Fey and Andy Lockhart, along with junior newcomer Danny Wilson were all competing in the B Singles flight, with Fey qualifying for the championship after wins over John Brough (Valparaiso, 6-4, 6-3), Nathan Jones (IPFW, 6-1, 6-3) and Tyler Sonkin (Toledo, 7-6 (8-6), 6-4). Toledo's Knot Likitkumchorn was the victor in the finals, with a tight two set win in 6-4, 7-5.

The C Singles Bracket saw great success for the Flames, with Sean Kreymborg and Tim O'Brien advancing to the finals. O'Brien emerged as the victor between the two teammates, while having a very successful tournament by not giving up more than four games in a set the entire weekend.

In doubles action, the A bracket saw final matches with both sets of opponents from Toledo. Lystad and Lockhart fell in the championship match against Chris Clark and Wade Ward, while Liccardo and Harbo won the third place match against Sven Burus and Knot Likitkumchorn. The duo of O'Brien and Kreymborg paired up for C Doubles, where they lost to Brian Zaron and John Brough of Green Bay.

The Flames are off for the next two weekends, gearing up for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional Championships to be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota October 18-23.
