Chicago, Ill.- The Oct. 21st edition of the Chicago Sun-Times featured an article by staff writer Esther J. Cepeda on the journey of UIC senior midfielder Cesar Zambrano (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice) to a college degree.
The article, which was part three of a four-part series entitled "The Hispanic Experience," was printed on page 16A in the Sun-Times with a headline using a quote from Zambrano: "If you have a dream, you follow it."
Cepeda looks at the issue of a lack of Hispanics enrolled in college and touches on some of the reasons for such a disparity. She uses Zambrano's story as an example of breaking through the "financial and cultural reasons" many Latinos forgo education after high school with his perseverance and use of his soccer skills to earn a scholarship.
