Minneapolis, Minn. - Members of the UIC men's tennis team traveled to Minneapolis to compete at the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships, beginning October 18th.
The weekend produced some positive results, as the sophomore duo of Sebastian Lystad and Bastian Harbo advanced to the round of 32 in singles competition. Lystad, the 13 seed in the qualifying rounds, defeated Green Bay's Mark Goldin in three sets (6-3, 5-7, 6-2).
Harbo also faced off against a Horizon League foe, downing Butler's Bryce Warren 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
While Lystad and Harbo could contain league foes, the Big Ten proved too much to handle as Lystad fell to Iowa's Reinoud Hall (2-6, 6-2, 6-3) and Harbo lost to Scott Bruckmann of Michigan 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
Also competing for the Flames were Adriano Liccardo and Dan Wilson, who fell in the opening round of singles competition.
Lystad found success in doubles, pairing with senior Andy Lockhart for the tournament. The duo defeated David Anderson and Matt Johnson of Notre Dame 9-7.
Lystad and Lockhart came up against the number four-ranked team from Illinois, losing to Billy Heiser and Ryan Rowe 7-3.
