Evanston, Ill. - The UIC swimming and diving team suited up for the second time this weekend, facing off against the Wildcats of Northwestern. In the midst of some very close competitions, the Big Ten team took down Flames 161 to 70 on the men's side, and the women's team lost 152 to 83.
Senior Andrea Giczewski and freshman Evan Dunn placed first in their specialty events for the third dual meet in a row. Giczewski took first in the 50 free in a time of 24.63, while Dunn outdistanced the nearest competition by over two seconds in the 400 IM, winning in a time of 4:08.24.
Freshman Steve Yemm continues to impress, as he won the 100 butterfly in 50.64. He also led off the 200 freestyle relay that was just nipped by the Wildcats.
Junior Ashley Simos had a stellar day as well, as she won the 100 breaststroke in 1:10.77.
The diving team had some stellar performances, as junior Tristan Oleynik placed third in both the one and three-meter events. Freshman Sonia Peterson continues to lead the young divers as she placed second in the one-meter dive with a score of 237.83.
The Flames are back in action on November 10th, as they host Butler, Milwaukee and North Dakota, starting at 3:00 p.m at the UIC Natatorium.
