Des Moines, Iowa- Despite plenty of extra-frame battles, the UIC men's tennis team was downed on the road by host Drake, 7-0, at the Drake Tennis Center on Saturday morning.
Rookie Sebastian Lystad made his first appearance at the top spot for UIC (1-3), rebounding from a shutout loss in the first set to give Drake's Sergi Vila all he could handle in the second set.
Both Eric Fey and Andy Lockhart went the distance in their singles matches, battling back from first-set defeats to knot their respective bouts with valiant second-frame finishes. Both fought hard in narrow defeats in tiebreaker sets.
Both Fey and Lockhart teamed up for a near-win over the Bulldog tandem of Guilherme Marsigla and Bekang Setshogo before falling by a single point, 8-7.
UIC faces IPFW and Robert Morris next weekend in Fort Wayne, Ind.
