Evergreen Park, Ill.- A claim of the doubles point and singles wins by Callan Smith and Grace Gill-Morlis were not enough for the UIC women's tennis team in a narrow 4-3 defeat at the hands of Drake at Evergreen Racquet & Fitness on Sunday.

UIC took an early lead as Christina Oum and Ulrikke von Ubisch defeated Kari Sloboth and Allison Wilkie at No. 2 doubles by an 8-4 count before Jenna Reisch and Gill-Morlis teamed up for an 8-5 point-clinching win over Eveline Rusdianto and Irina Kalashnikova in the third slot.

Smith downed Kalashnikova in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, and Gill-Morlis swept Zi Wang by a 6-1, 6-4 margin.

The Flames fell just short in two singles matches that would have gave the dual match win to UIC.

Reisch fell just short in the second set against Wilkie at No. 6 singles, falling in a closely-contested 7-6(5) frame that the UIC rookie nearly sent into a third and decisive set.

Oum earned a first-set win over Sloboth but could not earn the same result in the next two.

UIC faces Illinois State next Saturday in Normal, Ill.
