Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's basketball team opens a key three-game homestand on Wednesday, February 14, when the Flames (10-16, 5-8) welcome UW-Green Bay (14-12, 6-7) to the Pavilion for a 7 p.m. tip. The game will be aired live on ESPN Radio 1000 AM.
With just three regular season Horizon League games left on the slate, UIC finds itself in a four-way tie for fifth place in the standings and just one game behind the Phoenix for fourth place as team's jockey for position heading into the upcoming league tournament.
The Flames, who are coming off a win at Detroit in their last outing, will try and even the season series with UW-Green Bay on Wednesday. The Phoenix rolled past UIC, 77-57, back on Jan. 24 at the Resch Center.
UW-Green Bay, which lost its last outing at home to Loyola, is the Horizon League's top three-point shooting team, connecting on almost 40 percent of its triple attempts. The Phoenix is led by senior guard Ryan Evanochko (15.2 ppg, 5.2 apg) and sophomore forward Mike Schachtner (14.7 ppg, 3.7 rpg).
UIC has received strong play of late from junior Robert Bush, who is averaging 11.5 points and 5.0 rebounds in his last two outings since being moved into the starting lineup. Sophomore Scott VanderMeer, the league's top shot blocker, has proven to be a force on the boards as well, pulling down 10.7 rebounds per game in his last three contests.
Junior Othyus Jeffers continues to lead the Flames in scoring (16.1 ppg) and rebounding (9.0 rpg).
UIC will continue its homestand on Saturday when it takes on Central Michigan in a non-conference affair at 3:30 p.m. The game is part of the O'Reilly ESPNU BracketBusters series.
