Chicago, Ill.- The UIC women's tennis team opened up its Horizon League slate in impressive fashion, defeating UW-Milwaukee by a 6-1 count at Evergreen Racquet & Fitness.

Despite playing without an injured Callan Smith, UIC (1-5) persevered thanks to a balanced effort from the rest of the lineup.

The Flames captured the doubles point with Christina Oum and Lubica Nadasska winning at the top spot, Grace Gill-Morlis and Jenna Reisch scoring an easy win at No. 2 and Ulrikke von Ubisch and Amy Jellish teaming up to help complete the sweep of paired play matches.

In the singles session UIC won five of six, with the only loss coming when Nadasska was bested in a hard-fought tiebreaker frame.

The rest of the lineup moved up and didn't miss a beat, as all five players contributed straight-set victories.

UIC extended its unbeaten streak against conference foes to 84 dual matches, a streak that began in 1997.

The Flames host league foe UW-Green Bay at Evergreen Racquet & Fitness on Saturday at 6:00 p.m.
