Chicago, Ill. - UIC softball (13-25) fell to No. 14 DePaul (28-7) on Thursday afternoon at Flames Field. The Blue Demons scored three runs in the first inning and two in the seventh to top the Flames, 5-1, in the crosstown matchup.
UIC freshman Stephanie Chavez, juniors Nikki Rogers and Brittany Dixon each tabbed a hit versus the Blue Demons.
DePaul's Amber Patton was 2-for-3 with one RBI. Jackie Tarulli-Fisher was 1-for-3 with a team-high two RBI. Kate Sheaks totaled two runs scored and Sandy Vojik picked up one run and one RBI against the Flames.
Blue Demon pitcher Becca Heteniak improved her record to 12-3 with the win. UIC sophomore Sarah Clynes was tagged with the loss, dropping to 10-13 on the season.
The Blue Demons jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning on a two-run single to center field from Tarulli-Fisher. First baseman Marcy Wilus then ripped a single to short for the 3-0 advantage.
UIC cut the deficit to two runs after Clynes scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the third.
Freshman Chelsea Fuemmeler replaced Clynes in the circle in the top of the fifth inning.
DePaul extended its lead to four runs in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI double from Patton, followed by a UIC fielding error, sending home Sheaks.
UIC steps back into Horizon League action this weekend when they host Detroit in a three-game series on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. The Flames and Titans face off in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1:00 p.m., followed by the series finale on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
