Chicago, Ill. - UIC softball clinched the series sweep over Detroit on Sunday. The Flames (16-25, 6-3) defeated the Titans, 6-1, in the series finale at Flames Field. Sophomore Sarah Clynes posted a .666 batting average and picked up her 12th win in the circle against the Titans.
Clynes was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBI and a solo homer in the bottom of the first inning. Clynes fanned six batters in seven innings pitched. Junior Ashlee Ackerman continued her hot streak at the plate in the series finale with three hits and two RBI.
Junior Brittany Dixon capped the series with a .666 batting average in game three. Dixon was 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Freshman Brooke Frydendall and junior Nicole Robinson each tabbed a hit against the Titans.
Jessica Barclay led Detroit with two hits, while Sarah Dickey owned the team's lone run in the top of the first inning. Kaliegh Rafter and Adrienne Baran each notched a hit versus the Flames.
The Titans got on the scorebeard in the top of the first when Dickey stole home to give the squad a 1-0 lead.
Clynes knotted it at 1-1 in the bottom of the first on a solo shot to center field, marking her second homer on the weekend. Frydendall ripped a single through the right side, followed by an RBI double from Robinson to left field for the 2-1 lead.
UIC extended the gap to three runs in the bottom of the second on four hits. With Dixon on second base, Clynes singled to left field for the RBI. With the bases loaded, Frydendall reached on a Detroit error, sending Clynes home.
With two on in the bottom of the sixth inning, Ackerman doubled up the middle to pick up two RBI.
Holding the Titans in the top of the seventh, UIC completed the series sweep with the 6-1 win.
UIC travels to South Bend to face Notre Dame on Wednesday, April 25.
