Chicago, Ill. - UIC softball fell to Wisconsin, 12-1, in five innings on Tuesday night at Flames Field. UIC travels to Wisconsin for a three-game series versus UW-Green Bay this weekend. The Flames face the Phoenix in a doubleheader on Saturday, April 7, followed by a single matchup on Sunday, April 8.
Sophomore Sarah Clynes, senior Liz Jacoby, junior Nicole Robinson and freshman Stephanie Chavez each picked up a hit versus the Badgers.
Alexis Garcia led Wisconsin with one run, six RBI and a grand slam. Samantha Polito was 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Joey Daniels was 2-for-3 with three runs and three RBI.
Senior Eden Brock moves to 9-6 in the circle for Wisconsin, while UIC freshman Chelsea Fuemmeler falls to 2-11 on the year.
Wisconsin took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on four hits. Polito hit an RBI double to left center. Ricci Robben then singled between the shortstop and third baseman, sending Daniels home. Garcia capped the inning with an RBI single through the left side for the 3-0 advantage.
The Badgers continued their hot streak at the plate in the second inning. With the bases loaded, Daniels ripped a two-run RBI double up the middle. Robben drew the walk to load the bases. Garcia then gave the Badgers a 9-0 lead on a grand slam to center field, marking her fourth homer on the season.
Wisconsin tacked on three more runs in the third on two hits. Letty Olivarez replaced Brock in the circle in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Clynes ripped a single up the middle to start off the bottom half of the fourth inning. Jacoby then reached on a fielder's choice. Freshman Brooke Frydendall drew the walk to put runners on first and second. Robinson then loaded the bases on a single through the left side. Jacoby scored on a fielder's choice to give the Flames their lone run of the contest (12-1).
