Chicago, Ill. - UIC softball squared off against No. 11/15 DePaul for the second time in two weeks on Tuesday night. The Blue Demons topped the Flames, 9-2, at Cacciatore Stadium in Lincoln Park.
Freshman Brooke Frydendall was 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Senior Liz Jacoby was 1-for-3 with one run. Junior Mallory Studzinski was 1-for-3 with one RBI.
Jackie Tarulli-Fisher led the Blue Demons with a grand slam. Tarulli-Fisher was 1-for-2 with one run and four RBI. Kate Sheaks was 1-for-2 with two runs, one RBI and one homer. Kara Amundson was 2-for-2 with one home run. Linda Secka tabbed DePaul's fourth homer of the game with two hits, one run and one RBI.
DePaul's Tracie Adix moves her overall record to 15-1 in the circle, while freshman Chelsea Fuemmeler falls to 3-14 on the season.
Tarulli-Fisher gave the Blue Demons a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning with a grand slam to center field.
DePaul added two runs in the bottom of the second on a UIC error to take a 6-0 advantage.
Secka drilled a solo shot to right field in the bottom of the third inning, picking up her fourth home run on the season (7-0). DePaul then loaded the bases, but Sandy Vojik popped out to center fielder Ashlee Ackerman to close out the inning.
Jacoby ripped a line drive down the right field line to heat up UIC's bats in the top of the fourth. Frydendall followed with a hard grounder between the third baseman and shortstop, sending Jacoby home for the RBI. Melissa Marinacci then drew the walk, moving Frydendall into scoring position. With runners on second and third, Studzinski notched her second RBI of the season on a ground out to the DePaul shortstop (7-2).
Amundson tabbed her first home run on the season in the bottom of the fourth to gain back a run for the Blue Demons.
Sheaks notched the fourth home run of the game in the bottom of the fifth inning to give DePaul a 9-2 lead.
UIC will celebrate Senior Night prior to its doubleheader against Western Illinois on Thursday, May 3. The first pitch is slated for 6:00 p.m. and senior Becky Moran will be singing the National Anthem.
