Indianapolis, Ind. - The UIC men's track and field team finished in second place overall and junior Idara Essien gave the women's team an event title in the triple jump in record breaking fashion as the Flames concluded competition at the 2007 Horizon League Championships at Michael A. Carroll Track and Field Stadium.

The men's squad, which led after the Thursday's events, was unable to hold off a charge from a deep UW-Milwaukee squad as the Panthers recorded 10 event titles on Friday to take home the league crown.

The men's team did not have an individual event winner on Friday, but had several strong performances, including a second place finish in the 5,000-meter run from Joseph Mbari (15:17.36) and a second place finish in the high jump from Scott Pauga (1.97m).

Junior Terell Williams, who placed in the top five in four different events while winning the javelin and the decathlon, was named the Horizon League's Outstanding Field Performer after the meet.

On the women's side, Essien wasted little time putting her name in the record books as her first attempt at the triple jump was marked at 12.00m, breaking the Horizon League Championship record of 11.95m set back in 2005 by Detroit's Joanna Grandas. Essien's leap would hold up as she would win the league triple jump title for the second straight season.

The women's team would finish in sixth place overall out of the seven teams competing.
