Peoria, IL- The UIC Men's Tennis squad kicked off the fall portion of their schedule this past weekend at the Bradley Invitational, and gave some in-state and league rivals a preview of what to expect from the Flames this season.
Junior Adriano Liccardo won the B Singles final over Illinois State's Nuno Jacinto 6-1, 2-6, 10-5. Liccardo advanced through the earlier rounds easily, with wins over Mike Wagner from the Horizon League newest member, Valparaiso (7-6, 6-4) and Gregory Sosa from Indiana/Purdue-Indianapolis (6-3, 6-3).
The sophomore duo of Sebastian Lystad and Bastian Harbo both advanced in the A Singles bracket. Harbo lost a tough semi-final match to Luka Marinkovic of Illinois State, but came back strong the next day to claim third place in the division. Lystad was victorious in his semi-final match versus Alex Lau of Valparaiso, but came up short against Marinkovic, losing 5-7, 6-2, 10-7.
In other UIC singles action, Senior Eric Fey advanced to the consolation title match in the B singles draw, losing to PJ Hendrie of St. Louis 6-4, 6-3. Newcomer Dan Wilson defeated veteran senior Andy Lockhart in the consolation C singles match, senior Sean Kreymborg qualified for the consolation match in the D bracket and sophomore Tim O'Brien claimed third place in the E singles draw.
The doubles pairing of Harbo and Liccardo advanced to the finals of the A doubles bracket, falling to the duo of Marinkovic and Beich of Illinois State. Sebastian Lystad teamed up with Andy Lockhart, claiming third in the same division over Acosta and Hendrie of St. Louis 8-3.
Eric Fey and Dan Wilson won the B doubles consolation title over Brunette and Stump of Valparasio, and Kreyborg and O'Brien lost a close C doubles championship match to Robertson and Macara of host Bradley.
The Flames return to action this Friday and Saturday at Valparaiso.
