Green Bay, Wis. - The UIC Swimming and Diving squads had their 2008 debut in Wisconsin over the weekend, competing against Horizon League rival Green Bay.
The men's squad distanced themselves from the competition, winning the dual meet 138 to 105. The women were defeated 157.5 to 82.50.
In UIC's first competition since returning from Fort Lauderdale, Florida after an eight day training trip, the Flames look to be gearing up for the Horizon League championships in less than six weeks.
The sprint freestyle swimmers led the way for the Flames, as sophomore Cameron Seebeck and senior Andrea Giczewski claimed the top spots in the 50 and 100 freestyle events.
Seebeck finished the 50 free in 21.51 and defeated the competition by almost a second in the 100, clocking in at 46.96.
Giczewski continues her winning ways with a sixth dual match victory in her specialty events, taking the 50 in 24.02 and blowing the competition away by over two seconds in the 100 (52.43).
Evan Dunn, in the midst of a strong freshman season, picked up two wins in the 200 fly (1:54.11) and the 200 breaststroke (2:10.67).
Other winners for the Flames include junior diving captain Tristan Oleynik in the one-meter dive (260.55), Dan Hare in the 200 IM (1:59.02), Brenden Dougherty in the 200 free (1:44.24), Brooke Sawyer in the 200 back (2:09.36), Andy Peterson in the 200 back (1:56.25) and Kelly Hashoian in the 500 free (5:09.53).
The men's 400 freestyle relay capped off a solid meet by setting a Green Bay pool record of 3:07.28.
The Flames are off until the final home meet of the season, taking on new Horizon League member Valparaiso on Saturday, January 26 at 1 p.m. at the UIC Natatorium.
