Chicago, Ill. - The UIC men's swimming and diving team took top honors in every event against the Valparaiso Crusaders at the UIC Natatorium this afternoon, defeating the newest member of the Horizon League 172 to 58.

The women's squad had a similar level of success, as the team won all but two events for the Flames, defeating Valpo 147 to 88.

Prior to the start of the meet, the senior class was honored before they took to the pool for the last time at the UIC Natatorium.

Each one of the four seniors had outstanding performances, with the highlight of the meet coming when Andrea Giczewski broke two school records against the Crusaders.

Giczewski took the 200 freestyle record down to 1:54.69, previously held by Julie Anne Chico with a 1:54.74 effort in 1999. Later in the meet, the senior brought her own record down, taking the 100 free in 51.91, down from the 51.99 she swam during the 2007 season.

Fellow senior Dan Hare left the UIC Natatorium with the same level of success, winning both of his events. Hare won the 100 breaststroke (1:00.33) and the 100 free (46.99) in season-best times.

First-year Flames brought home the majority of the wins for the afternoon. The winners include Emily Hare (1000 free, 10:47.76), Evan Dunn (200 free, 1:44.32), Beth Paglini (200 IM, 2:14.51), Andrew Schmitt (200 IM, 1:56.91), Brooke Sawyer (100 fly, 58.32 and 100 back, 1:00.02), Andrew Parro (100 fly, 53.17), Kelly Hashoian (500 free, 5:12.01), and Konrad Korth (500 free, 4:52.04).

Sophomore sprinters Brenden Dougherty (50 free, 21.39) and Cameron Seebeck (100 back, 53.87) also took the top spots in their events as well.

Distance specialist Davor Trnovijakovic (1000 free, 10:02.67) returned to his winning ways after missing a few meets earlier in the season.

The diving crew completed the sweep as Tristan Oleynik won the one-meter (265.30), freshman Krystian Wilk took the three-meter (232.20) and Sonia Peterson placed first in both events for the Flames.

The entire swimming and diving team head to Ohio for the Flames final meet of the season. UIC will head to Cleveland State to take on the Vikings and the Penguins of Youngstown State on Sat. February 2 and 12 p.m.
