Chicago, Ill. - The UIC volleyball team's late rally fell short on Saturday afternoon as the Flames fell to Wright State in four sets (19-25, 21-25, 26-24, 22-25) at the Flames Athletic Center.
Three UIC players picked up double-doubles against the Raiders. Casie Sullivan led on offense with 17 kills, while Taylor Szatkowski totaled a team-best 18 digs.
Jessica Woods earned a double-double for Wright State with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Knotted at 11-11 in the first frame of set one, Wright State went on a 6-1 run to take the lead. The Flames answered with a 4-1 burst to get within one point, but that would be as close as they would get as the Raiders went on to win 25-19.
Solid defense carried Wright State in the second set with six total blocks. Trailing by five points, the Raiders recorded an 8-5 run to tie the set at 18-18. The set knotted two more times before WSU put up three straight points for the 25-21 victory.
UIC rallied in set three with a .283 attack percentage. The Flames and Raiders matched points late in the frame to take the set into extra points. Tied at 24-24, the Flames recorded back-to-back points for the win.
Set four was a even match with impressive performances on both sides of the net. It remained a close battle until the Raiders scored four straight points late in the frame to clinch the match victory (25-22).
The Flames play the next three on the road, starting with a matchup against Milwaukee on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
