Chicago, Ill.- The UIC men's basketball team begins its 62nd season of competition this Friday, Nov. 14 against in-state rival Bradley at Carver Arena in Peoria, Ill.
Tip for the season opener is scheduled to occur at approximately 7:05 p.m. Central.
Adam Levinson and UIC great Kenny Williams will call the action live via streaming audio here at uicflames.com.
Lakeshore Public Television (channel 17/56) will carry the Bradley Comcast Television feed, with Frank Bussone and coaching legend Dick Versace providing the sound.
UIC has high hopes for the new campaign, with two of the Horizon League's top returning players back in the fold for the Flames. Senior guard Josh Mayo and senior center Scott VanderMeer anchor the UIC attack, with the sharpshooting 5-foot-11 Mayo the league's top returning scorer (17.1 ppg) and the intimidating 7-foot VanderMeer the league's best returning rebounder (7.5 rpg) and shot-blocker (2.6 bpg).
Mayo is the league's Preseason Player of the Year and a Preseason All-League First Teamer to go with his Mid-Major All-America accolades from collegeinsider.com.
VanderMeer, a two-time League All-Defensive Team honoree, is a Preseason All-League Second team pick who scored 9.3 ppg last season, the second-best average on the team.
UIC and Bradley face each other in a season-opening contest for the second straight campaign. Last year Mayo scored a career-high 34 points to send the Flames to an 84-75 victory over the Braves at the Pavilion on Nov. 10, 2007.
