Chapel Hill, N.C.- UIC junior goalkeeper Jovan Bubonja (Belgrade, Serbia/VI Belgrade) was named a semifinalist for the 2008 Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy, the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) announced on Saturday, Nov. 29.

Bubonja is one of just 15 semifinalists considered for college soccer's most prestigious individual award. He is also the only goalkeeper on the list.

The junior has allowed just 14 goals in 21 matches for a goals-against average of 0.63 in 2008. He has registered 10 clean sheets this year, including a pair of shutouts in the 2008 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship to help the Flames reach the Sweet 16 for the second straight season.

He has a 0.52 career goals-against average with a school-record 32 shutouts and 188 saves in 66 matches during his three seasons between the posts for UIC.

Bubonja is the first UIC player to earn semifinalist status for the Hermann Trophy.

The 2008 MAC Hermann Trophy award-winner will be voted on by Division I head coaches who are current members of the NSCAA. Three finalists for the award will be announced on Friday, Dec. 12 and will be invited to the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis for a news conference to reveal the winner of the award on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009, when the award will be formally presented during a dinner and reception that evening.
