Chicago, Ill. - The UIC women's basketball team (8-15, 4-8) fell short against Loyola on Saturday afternoon at the Gentile Center, 63-57. Sophomore Jessie Miller totaled a team-best 13 points, including three treys.
Sophomore Briana Hinkle and freshman Shanice Sadler each added 12 points. Sadler also pulled down eight boards on the afternoon. Junior Nikki Grobbecker owned a team-high 10 rebounds.
Four Ramblers scored in double-digits. Sophomore Elyse VanBogaert picked up a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Brittany Boeke led Loyola in scoring with 15 points.
The first half remained tight before the Flames sparked a 9-4 run (20-14) with 8:48 on the clock. Loyola responded with nine straight points to regain the advantage with less than seven minutes left in the half. The Ramblers turned their offensive burst into a 21-7 run to own an eight-point lead at the half (35-27).
Loyola (6-17, 4-8) took its largest lead of 18 points at the 18:13 mark in the second half. UIC turned up the heat with an 18-10 run to get within four points (49-45). The Flames cut the deficit to three with 5:17 left in regulation, but that would be as close as they would get as Loyola captured the 63-57 victory.
UIC tied the school record with 10 steals against the Ramblers.
UIC hosts Green Bay (Feb. 21) and Milwaukee (Feb. 23) next week at the Pavilion.
